Let’s start off with an easy recipe featuring cooked prime rib, mushrooms, and potatoes.

Simple Prime Rib Soup Recipe
Serves: 4-6


Preparation Instructions:

  1. Place the ribs in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the meat is falling from the bones, about 2 hours. Remove the ribs and allow to cool. Trim the meat from the ribs and cut into bite sized pieces; refrigerate. Continue simmering the broth until reduced to 1 cup; refrigerate until the fat congeals to the top.
  2. Skim and discard the congealed fat. Pour the broth into a saucepan along with the meat trimmings, beef stock, potato, mushrooms, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the potatoes are tender, about 20 minutes. Sprinkle with chives to serve.

Prep Time: 15 minutes – Cooking Time: 3 hours 45 minutes (may vary on stove power) – Ready to Serve: 7 hours

Prime Rib and Barley Soup
Serves: 8


Preparation Instructions:

  1. Put all ingredients except barley into a large pot (we use a ceramic cast iron pot)
  2. Bring to a boil
  3. Cover, reduce heat and cook over medium heat for 30 minutes
  4. Add barley and cook for another 30 minutes or until barley is tender
  5. Remove bones and meat from pot and let cool enough to handle
  6. Remove meat from bones and chop all meat into bite size pieces
  7. Return meat to pot
  8. Serve (we serve with rolls)

Prep Time: 25 minutes – Cooking Time: 1-3 hours (may vary on stove power) – Ready to Serve: 4-5 hours (make sure meat is tender, barley is cooked, and soup has been stirred periodically)

Prime Rib and Vegetable Soup
Serves: 10


Preparation Instructions:

  1. Put all ingredients, through parsley, in a large pot
  2. Cook over medium heat for 1/2 hr
  3. Add barley and cook for another 1/2 hr
  4. Remove bones from pot and cool
  5. Remove meat from bones and cut into pieces
  6. Return meat to pot and then add potato and mixed vegetables
  7. Cook 1/2 hr until potatoes are cooked

Prep Time: 30 minutes – Cooking Time: 1.5 hours (may vary on stove power) – Ready to Serve: 2 hours (make sure meat is tender, all vegetables are thoroughly cooked, and soup has been stirred periodically)

Prime Rib, Wild Rice, and Mushroom Soup
Serves: 2-4, more servings if ingredients increased proportionally 


Preparation Instructions:

  1. Soak morel mushrooms in 2 cups boiling water until softened
  2. Remove morels and dice, reserving liquid
  3. Heat oil/fat and butter in a larger Dutch oven over medium high heat
  4. Add onions and cook until the onion is translucent
  5. Add the mushrooms and rosemary all at once
  6. Sauté the mushrooms for 2-3 minutes
  7. Add the sherry and deglaze the pan
  8. Then add the broth and reserved morel mushroom liquid
  9. Bring to a low boil, add the prime rib and the wild rice, salt and pepper to taste
  10. Whisk flour and cream together and slowly add to soup
  11. Bring back to a low boil, stirring occasionally until the soup thickens slightly
  12. Finish with the fresh chopped parsley and serve immediately

Prep Time: Up to 60 minutes *(mostly for cooking the wild rice) – Cooking Time: 1.5 hours (may vary on stove power) – Ready to Serve: 2 hours (make sure meat is tender, all vegetables are thoroughly cooked, rice is soft, and soup has been stirred periodically)

*Note on Rice: The Wild Rice in this recipe might need up to an hour of cooking time on its own before adding it to the soup. That’s why we suggested 60 minutes prep time, which will usually is enough to soften the rice. After that, add ingredients as instructed and cook like any other meat soup.

Horseradish is a great companion to prime rib. It’s somewhat spicy, somewhat sour, somewhat creamy flavor adds a little pizzazz to any beef dinner. Simple Horseradish Sauce Recipe for Prime Rib


  1. 2 tablespoons freshly grated horseradish (for best taste buy fresh horseradish from your grocer)
  2. 8 ounces sour cream drained
  3. 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  4. 1 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce*
  5. 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  6. Salt
  7. Dash of hot sauce*

In a medium sized bowl, mix together all ingredients and serve with Prime Rib. Place in refrigerator until ready to serve. That’s it! Be sure to thoroughly mix ALL ingredients, or else the sauce will be inconsistent or pasty.

Important: Always refer to your specific recipe’s instructions first before using substitutions. For example, some recipes might call for grated horseradish opposed to bottled prepared horseradish. Substitute at your own risk! 🙂

Apple Horseradish Sauce

  1. 4 Granny Smith apples
  2. 2 fluid ounces (60 ml) cider vinegar
  3. 2 ounces (60 g) fresh horseradish, grated
  4. 1 teaspoon (5 ml) paprika
  5. 1 fluid ounce (30 ml) white wine


Grate the apples and moisten them with vinegar. Add the horseradish and paprika. Thin to the desired consistency with the wine.

Yield: 1 pint (500 ml)

Horseradish Hollandaise Sauce Recipe
Note: This one is a little more complicated, but the end result is an amazing flavor that can’t be missed!


  1. 1/2 pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter

For the Horseradish Puree:

  1. 1/4 cup drained prepared horseradish
  2. 1 Tablespoon white wine vinegar
  3. 1 Tablespoon heavy cream
  4. 2 egg yolks
  5. 1 Tablespoon water
  6. 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt


Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Keep warm.

To make the horseradish puree: Place the horseradish, vinegar, and cream in a blender. Puree until smooth, stopping from time to time to scrape down the sides with a rubber spatula. Scrape into a bowl and reserve.

Place the egg yolks in a slightly larger non-reactive saucepan. Whisk in the water and the salt. Place over medium-low heat. Slowly pour the warm butter into the egg yolks, whisking constantly. After all the butter has been incorporated, continue whisking approximately 3 to 5 minutes over the heat, until the sauce is light and fluffy and has almost doubled in volume. Remove from heat and continue whisking until the sauce is skin temperature.

Whisk in the reserved horseradish puree. Serve immediately. Good with roasted fish, beef, and chicken.

Yield: 1-2/3 cups

Same Day Beet Relish


  1. 1 pound cooked beets
  2. 1 ounce grated horseradish, or more to taste
  3. 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  4. 1 Tablespoon sugar
  5. Salt and freshly ground pepper
  6. 3 Tablespoons red wine vinegar
  7. 1 cup yogurt or sour cream


Coarsely grate beets and mix with horseradish. Beat together the mustard, sugar, salt, pepper, and vinegar and mix with the beets. Fold in the yogurt or sour cream. Serve cold. The texture of the sauce can be as “coarse” or “smooth” as you desire, depending on how small you make your grated beets and horseradish particles. Feel free to add more Horseradish to balance the earthy flavor of the beets to taste.

Yield: About 2 cups

Super Cajun Prime Rib Roast Recipe

We found this great recipe for a spicy, delicious, prime rib with-a-kick CAJUN style. If you’ve every visited Louisiana, you’ll know what we’re talking about. Prep in 15 minutes, cook for 2 hours 20 minutes, and have it on the table for your next party!

Easy Cajun Prime Rib Roast Recipe

Portion: This recipe makes 1-4 Prime Rib Roasts. Adjust all ingredients and preparation proportionally.


  • 1 (4 pound) boneless prime rib roast
  • 3 tablespoons hot pepper sauce
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning blend (such as Tony Chachere’s®)
  • 1 (16 ounce) package sliced mushrooms


  1. Preheat an oven to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C).
  2. Place the prime rib into a roasting pan, and rub all over the outside with the hot pepper sauce. Evenly sprinkle with garlic powder and Cajun seasoning.
  3. Roast, uncovered, in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and continue roasting to your desired degree of doneness, or an internal temperature of 145 degrees F (65 degrees C) for medium, about 2 hours. Remove from the oven, cover with a doubled sheet of aluminum foil, and allow to rest in a warm area 30 minutes before slicing.
  4. While the roast is resting, scrape the drippings from the roasting pan into a skillet. Place the skillet over medium heat, and stir in the sliced mushrooms. Cook and stir until the mushrooms have softened and begun to release their liquid. Serve alongside the sliced prime rib.
